Effect of Mancozeb Inhalation on the Olfactory Mucosa in Rats

Background: Mancozeb, (ethylene-bis-dithiocarbamate), is an important fungicide useful against a wide range of fungus affecting ornamental plants, crops, and fruits. We aimed to evaluate the changes in olfactory mucosa due mancozeb toxicity and, if cytokine active, IL-6 immunoactivity. Material Method: In experimental group, (500 mg/kg) was administered with inhalation 10 male Wistar Albino rats for five days week. The control group (n = 10) received distilled water spray at same time period. experiment terminated after three weeks. Samples were placed 10% formaldehyde fixation paraffin, sections 5 μm prepared from paraffin blocks stained Hematoxylin-Eosin. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) primary antibody used immunohistochemical analysis. Result: epithelial cell degeneration apoptosis, inflammation, dilatation congestion vessels observed. expression increased vascular endothelium inflammatory cells. Conclusions: Mancozeb thought that increase signal affect development apoptosis angiogenesis, use might adversely mechanism.
